Alpha Online Learning ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website alphaonlinelearning.org (the "Platform"). We are committed to protecting the privacy of all users, especially students. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide our educational services:
- Student name — used to personalize the learning experience
- Grade level — used to assign appropriate curriculum
- Username — used for login and account management
- Learning progress — lessons completed, quiz scores, XP earned
- Google account email — only if student signs in via Google OAuth
We do not collect Social Security numbers, home addresses, phone numbers, financial information, or any sensitive personal information.
3. How We Use Information
- To provide and improve the educational platform
- To track student progress and display it to teachers/administrators
- To personalize the learning experience
- To authenticate users securely
We never sell, rent, or share student data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
4. Data Storage & Security
All data is stored securely on Cloudflare's infrastructure, which provides enterprise-grade security, encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), and data protection compliant with industry standards. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of data.
5. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Alpha Online Learning is designed for students in grades 5–8 (ages approximately 10–14). We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent, which is obtained through the school/district enrollment process. If you believe a child has provided us personal information without appropriate consent, contact us immediately at privacy@alphaonlinelearning.org.
6. FERPA Compliance
We operate as a "school official" under FERPA, meaning we access student education records only for legitimate educational purposes on behalf of the school. We do not disclose education records to third parties without proper authorization.
7. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Cloudflare — hosting, CDN, and security
- Google OAuth — optional sign-in (only email is accessed)
- Clever — optional school SSO (only rostering data is accessed)
- YouTube — embedded educational videos (no student data shared)
8. Data Retention
Student data is retained for the duration of the student's active enrollment. Schools may request deletion of all student data at any time by contacting us at privacy@alphaonlinelearning.org.
